Class Treaty Signing

Over the past few weeks we have talked about the importance of working together as a team, and helping to make our classroom a positive and safe place for each other.  While exploring the purpose of Treaties, we came up with a set of expectations based on our school values to abide by.  This was done though co-operative group activities where we discussed and recorded our thoughts about each school value.  We then decided on statements that we thought not only sounded great on our Treaty but fitted the needs of our class.

Our official Treaty Signing was a blast!  Each class presented their Treaty in such unique ways, adding their own flavour and energy.  Matua Namaka - our student teacher helped a group of keen boys to learn a maori chant to pull on our Waka which the rest of the class formed.  Groups of Room 9 children, then stood up and confidently read out a statement.  Some expressed their nervousness, but it didn't show!  What troopers!

After our presentations, the Senior classes split up around tables set up with their Treaty, and each member of the respective classes, signed their name to seal the deal - no backing out now!

Each and every member of Room 9 now has a responsibility to meet our Treaty agreements, and we will acknowledge when we make mistakes - because let's face it - we are human and everybody makes mistakes even when we're trying our best!

Here's to a new year, working together as a team :)
